My blog world without 30 days challenge was very dead. I've been keepin' busy with my school stuffs and i guess i didn't have something to post right here.
Last 27, 28 and 30 April i was having fun with hospitality world. Me and my friends Candy, Aynie and Ghe were joining Hospitality Rally Games 3 which organized by Petra Christian University, Hospitality Management Program. It was surprisingly unexpected games, unexpected team *yeah, made our team in a sudden* and unexpected registration because my team registered in last minute. It was a big relief when the committee put us in the participants list.
The Blue Lagoon Cocktail |
They put us in a team named Blue Lagoon, taken from a kind of cocktail. It was a very beautiful cocktail i could say. Umm.. and during the race, we got a new team member from PCU itself, she is ce Lusi, a 2nd semester college student. She also joining the race and we fight together.
I'm really glad i got tons of experience there. Since i was a big fan of culinary business tho i didn't have enough bravery to cook, i'm excited to got the whole package from fun to experience and a chance to try something i never try.
The most proud moment i had, probably on the first day of the race. In the second round, we were asked to decorate 3 layers of pancake with fruits. They gave us a slice of watermelon, melon and pineapple, a whole apple, and a mini banana plus 2 shared condensed milk *chocolate and full cream* and shared sprinkles. My team made a creation named 'Treasure Delight' *photo will be uploaded soon* but we had a major problem with the apple. We really didn't know what to do with that, then ce Lusi gave an advice "How if we turn those apple into a rabbit?". I remember watching a TV show on AFC showing those apple rabbit and i try to make one. IT WORKS! even it is really far from good and correctly trimmed, yet i'm really glad cuz the committee seems to appreciate my work and my teams to. No offense, i feel pretty good at that time :)
If you wanna know how does apple rabbit looks like :
Apple rabbit, made by a pro, not me. |
The most fun part of the race was the 2nd day. Actually, our team didn't expect at all that we would go trough the next round, but Thank God He had another plan for us.
We went to Ciputra Waterpark and that was my very first time there. Even the sun was very hot and the race was very tiring, i guess this round was the best round between day 1 and final. The most interesting post was called 'Golden Summer'. We were asked to made a cocktail but the layer must be clear. All the members of my team didn't know how, even ce Lusi. We try as hard as we can but ended up fail again and again. Then the post keeper told us how. The secret so that the layer is clear enough to see is to put the mixture slowly with a glass in titled position. Once again, i got something to learn today and oh! about glass, i remembered on the first day, we were asked to memorized kind of glasses. Now i know which one is tumbler, shot glass, Irish coffee glass, wine glass, etc. Hihi.
Here's the recipe of our lychee and orange simple cocktail:
- a shot of framboise
- 2 shot of simple syrup (made by a melted sugar and water)
- a shot of orange syrup *it is optional, you could replace that with lychee and any other kind of syrup*
- ice cubes
- soda
How to make:
- Put the ice cubes in the glass and let it cold. After it is cold enough, set aside the ice cubes and the melted water inside.
- In titled glass position, slowly pour a shot of framboise, 2 shot of simple syrup and a shot of orange syrup sequentially.
- Still in the titled glass position, pour the soda until the glass is full. Ready to serve :)
And it brings us to the final. Yeah!
The final day, we were asked to decorate 'nasi kuning' a traditional dish from Indonesia. We thought that if we made a kind of tumpeng*), it would be really common and we believe that most of the other competitor did the same thing. So we decided to made something different. We made a concept 'one bite surprising snacks' so we made those nasi kuning into dozens of onigiri shaped, filled with various nasi kuning filling. One bite surprising snacks is one bite size nasi kuning with surprising filling, because we didn't know what kind of filling inside each rice cuz we put it randomly.
We also worn cute outfit for the final, not like any other competitor who wore traditional outfit, we went into something more modern but still maintain the culture. Candy is the one who gave this idea for the costumes. *Any photos will be uploaded soon*
Cinta kahalang poster made by me :) |
It was a joy knowing that we won because everything seems to happen accidentally and everything works, even there's a lot of problems and barriers, we could go trough it and show our best.
I would like to thank everybody especially Mumsy Popsy Thomas, Abang cechemmarichem, Social Class 4, Ida Nordiana for being there to support us. Also ce Lusi, Candy, Ghe and Aynie for being a very supportive and nice team mates, for the transportation, tools and ingredients too! :D
I'm planning to join this race again next year, and my target? be better than this year.
Yes, we can! :D
